Mikupa thoughts

It's a good week late but I thought I may as well write some of my thoughts on Miku's concert. My overall impression was that last year's was better, but I didn't dislike this one as much as most seemed to. I had to grab the torrent since my experience on the night was the ad break and a single freeze frame:

Pretend there's incredibly choppy audio and it's like you were really there with me!

The setlist was quite nicely chosen. The songs are mostly well-known ones with surprisingly little overlap with last year's concert. Much to my annoyance, however, most of the songs were chopped up and put into something of a medley. That shitted me to tears. If you're going to play a song, play the whole song, not just the first thirty seconds of it! And while I'm having a whinge, Melt was played again. It completely boggles my mind as to how Melt can be arguably the best-known and liked Vocaloid song when it just sounds so...bad. I'm definitely in the minority on this one - maybe I'm just subconsciously trying to be as hipster as possible? God forbid.

Rinpits
I wonder what was actually in the box

Anyway, the rest of my thoughts on this are relative to 2010's concert. Compared to the 2010 39's Giving Day concert, Mikupa had:
  • higher resolution models
  • better facial expressions on the models
  • better choreography
  • more audience interaction
  •  a Rin that didn't look like some sort of singing zombie
  • a Luka that still doesn't seem to quite fit the character
  • a giant fucking TV on stage, and because of that
  • almost no sense of immersion
  • a less enthusiastic band
  • a 30 minute intermission, presumably because Miku's throat was getting sore
  • a slightly inferior setlist

So, given that immersion is a pretty big deal, I can say I preferred last year's concert. Hopefully Sega will take over again for next year's.

In unrelated matters, my mobile phone is becoming a massive inconvenience. I've known for a while now that my phone number is only a single digit different from the number for Nigel's Animal Rescue, who are allegedly Australia's most acclaimed animal rescuers (specialising in possums and other native animals).Which is good for them and all, but I'm the chump who has to inform clueless callers that this is not, in fact, Nigel, and would you please check the number a little more closely next time thank you very much. It's worst when I'm actually expecting a call: I hurriedly excuse myself from my class, rush out to the corridor, and answer my phone, only to be subjected to some woman gushing about whatever animal is stuck in her roof today. At least taking all these phone calls makes me look all busy and important.

I don't really have anything much to say about the earthquake. A girl from the Japanese club at Uni was walking around asking for donations yesterday, and I overheard her saying that they're going to be doing an anime screening to raise funds and are taking suggestions for the show. The first thing that popped into my head was Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, so it's probably for the best that I just kept walking.

Now there's looking at the bright side!

Yeah, probably best you didn't share that idea, haha.

  2. I'll wait for this to come out on Blu-ray.

I would've switched numbers immediately. I would hate to be inconvenienced so many times.

  3. I downloaded the torrent too, but I did it because I didn't think I would be able to sit through all of it in one go.

    >most of the songs were chopped up and put into something of a medley

Fucking this. I hated how they did that.

    >It completely boggles my mind as to how Melt can be arguably the best-known and liked Vocaloid song when it just sounds so...bad

    Probably because of Ryo.

    >Japanese club

Is it as weeaboo as I think it is?

I have no idea, but probably. I have nothing to do with it myself.

  5. The images does show that it looks better. I guess I kind of get what you mean by the medley but, some medley arrangements are fine.
