Yui and her Gitah

So, there's some mixed reactions about K-ON!. Many say it's some sort of moeshit or cancer, others seem to think it's the second coming. Me? I just like cute girls doing cute things, such as drinking tea. There hasn't been a figure of a K-ON! girl drinking tea as far as I know, so I had to settle for a muscially-themed figure (I know, nothing to do with the show at all). I went with the Volks Yui, as Yui and Ritsu are the best girls and I don't think Volks have a Ritsu figure.

Also, I decided to dig through my cupboards and find some old sheets of music for a backdrop. It didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, so bear with it.

The angles of Louis Yui

Dat backdrop fail in the last picture. I can improve, I swear! I believe this Yui is the first figure I own that's wearing a school uniform, which is actually pretty surprising. I like the look of it though, especially the lower half.

The pose is my favourite thing about this figure - it's very dynamic and Yui-like. The guitar is all well and good, although I can't help but feel it'd have been better with some alternate accessories for her left hand such as castanets, a cup of tea or a piece of jam toast. There is a huge untapped market here just waiting to be exploited.

Acting like a typical Japanese tourist. With a guitar.

I like the hair a lot. It's not too defined, with thick waves of hair rather than intricate detail. I think it's something of a Volks style, since the other figure I own by them is quite similar in this regard.

The base isn't particularly noteworthy, although the sharp sign is a nice choice. I think ♮ would have been a bit more fitting, but that's neither here nor there.

It's a shame about those scratches, I really don't know if it came like that or if I somehow did it.

Individual strings: a nice touch, but very breakable.

One of my housemates had a guitar lying around downstairs so I tried to jam with Yui for a bit.

Dammit Yui, stop posing for the camera and play!

Surprisingly, life isn't much like my Japanese animes where you can pick up a guitar and be an expert immediately. I totally nailed that chord where you just strum without holding down any strings though.

Figuring Yui probably deserved a bit better than my poor attempts at guitar, I got Miku out so they could have some fun. I think this was a much better idea overall. Incidentally, that Miku is the other Volks figure I have (and probably my most liked figure in my collection), and I'm sure you can see what I meant about the hair.

"Academic festival" seemed like a fitting title, despite the fact that you'd never use "Yui" and "academic" in the same sentence otherwise.

I like this figure better than most other Yui (or K-ON!) figures out there, but I feel like I should mention Alter's Yui. It's in a similar pose to this one, but I think it has a better looking head. Being Alter it has great quality overall, although I prefer Volks' Yui's lower half and base. I'm not quite sure which I'd prefer overall, but I'm not unhappy with my choice.

I doubt I'll ever get any more K-ON! figures, seeing as I don't much care for Mio and Azusa. I like Tsumugi but not enough to buy a figure of her, so Ritsu's the only other K-ON! girl I can see myself buying, although I'm yet to see a figure of her I like. Maybe I could just keep my eye out for a nice Ui instead, my collection can always use more imoutos.

I use it to practice Japanese comprehension, since half of the time you don't really need to know what they're saying anyway, so if I don't understand a part, it's not important.

Don't worry, I think the music sheets were a very creative backdrop for your figure. The piece sticking out in that one picture does stand out though.

And I also think that small details like individual strings add a nice touch to things. None of my figures with guitars have small design quirks like that, they're pretty plain.

You need to give it a name and lots of love. Then it'll work.

  2. Japanese stuff that focuses on cute girls doing cute things (like drinking tea and chatting) have completely corrupted my tastes.

Ah, but if you could just pick it up and be an expert with no effort, would you really appreciate it?

  3. I think it's up to which pose you prefer when it comes down to picking between Volks of Alter's, I personally like Alter's pose better.

Thos strings look great. I'm always nitpicky about these kinds of details.

  5. Nice Yui figure. I actually like all of the K-ON! girls but I still like Azusa a bit more.

What collection would be complete without one?

Real life is just like your corean grind gaems.

I really like yui too maybe because I can relate kind of, I do try and enjoy myself but I think its not working or it backfired.
